Advantages: Gripping stuff, and there's nothing else on

Disadvantages: Vorderman's awful clothes

What is it that rally makes this show great? Obviously it's the crackling sexual tension between the presenters, the Dynamic presenting, the interesting and high-profile guests, and the general high quality of the whole production.
What's that? What on Earth am I on about? Oh Sorry, you said COUNTDOWN? Oh, I thought you said something else.
Ah, Countdown then. Hmmm, I actually don't get to see this that often these days as I'm not home from work, which is quite a disappiontment as I used to watch Fifteen to One then this. I think I've actually just hit on the answer for it's appeal. Students are sitting around with nothing to do at this point (lectures are over but it's too early for dinner), and the elderly don't want to watch kids TV - so what else is there? If you can't stand the idiotic Childrens tv presenters, you're really stuck with watching Countdown.
That's not really such a bad thing. After a few shows you find yourself getting gripped by it in an odd kind of way...maybe it's the hope that Vorderman will pull out a string of letters that spell something amusing...
