Advantages: Well written
Disadvantages: Nothing
Most of the programmes that my daughters like I detest and can't watch most of them, mostly because they are horrors or about vampire slayers! However they do occasionally watch some little gems of programmes in which Coupling is one of them. I first watched it when they had it on DVD and found myself a little bit addicted to it.
Coupling has been dubbed the British version of Friends and it is easy to see why, a comedy about three women and three men which follows their different relationships. However Coupling is a comedy strictly for those of an older age than those for Friends. It follows Steve, Susan, Jane, Sally, Patrick and Geoff who have some wickedly delightful moments which have often had me laughing for days afterwards.
Coupling does follow their relationships but it does cover the subject of sex and all that it entails in lots of detail and has some strange moments surrounding the topic. The writing is excellent and the dialogue is very witty at times. Even though some of the situations are extremely unlikely they are funny and you can't help but to laugh at them. However what I do love about the writing on this show is that sometimes it is very honest and its portrayal of how men and women in a relationship talk to each other is spot on.
The only negative I have with this show is its last series, number four, in which a new character is brought in. I found Oliver annoying and couldn't help but feel as if he was too much of an effort to get someone loveably geeky on the show. It also didn't help that I thought he couldn't act and every scene he was in was spoilt a little for me.
Overall I think Coupling is a brilliant programme and the writing is hysterical. The actors are all brilliant however the only one I know by name is Jack Davenport who I think is a lovely actor. The episodes only last for around twenty minutes each and the entire series only has around twenty episodes which is disappointing since it is a brilliant show. However I am glad it ended when it did as I don't think I could have stood another series with that Oliver in! Jane and Geoff have to be a couple of the funniest characters ever written and I wholeheartedly recommend Coupling to anyone.
Summary: An excellent show worth watching
