Advantages: Well-produced, Compelling Viewing, Great Main Characters
Disadvantages: None
Usually, when spin-off programmes are made they are not quite as good as the original. Not so, in my mind, with CSI MIAMI. This is a fictional spin-off of CSI, (which is based in Las Vegas), CSI MIAMI (as its name infers) is based in and around Miami, Florida, USA. CSI stands for Crime Scene Investigations. This TV programme is about solving suspicious or mysterious deaths, especially murders, by using forensic evidence found in and around the scene of the crime. Sometimes the bodies are not killed, or did not die, where they were found. This, I find, is a particular interesting theme, as lots of different methods are used to determine how the crime was committed and by whom. I think the actors who play the main characters of CSI MIAMI are really professional. These actors are: David Caruso He plays Lieutenant ?H? Horatio Caine, and is the lead criminologist. Horatio once worked in the Miami Police Department Bomb Squad. I find him a very interesting person in the show. He has a very unusual trait at the end of each show. When Horatio and his team have solved any crimes and CSI MIAMI is about to finish, he takes a pair of sunglasses from his jacket pocket and puts them on, turns and walks into the sunset. Horatio also retains the respect of all his under-studies. I feel this is due to his particular quiet but methodical way of going about his job. The other members of the CSI MIAMI team call him ?H?, which I think he cannot mind as he does not stop them using it. He hardly ever seems to get ruffled in the many tight situations he can find himself and his team in, and I think this is very good for the watching of CSI MIAMI. Rory Cochrane His part in CSI MIAMI is Tim ?Speed? Speedie and is the experimentalist of the team. He is a well-educated young man who joined the CSI team in honour of one of his High School friends who died two years after being paralysed in a snow-mobile accident. Speed
likes to carry out the experiments in the lab to determine where various traces of chemicals come into play at the crime scenes. Emily Proctor Her character in CSI MIAMI is Calleigh Duquesne. Guns and ballistics are her forte. She is always helping ?H? out in finding out and where and how guns were fired and the trajectory of bullets. To test many different bullets and guns to find which one was the murder weapon Calleigh is quite often seen at police shooting range aiming at targets and into various materials. This can prove which bullet was used in the crime. Her nickname is Bullet Girl, which I think is very apt with all her knowledge. Adam Rodriguez Adam plays Eric Delko whose main role in CSI MIAMI is underwater. He is well known for searching the swampland areas of Florida, as well as checking in swimming pool deaths. I think his role is great as I like to see the Florida Everglades. Eric has another major part to play in CSI MIAMI. His parents are from Cuba and therefore he knows about the Cuban?s way of life, especially in drugs etc. He can also speak their language when needed to interview any Cuban suspects. Eric also assists in the searching and stripping down of cars for any signs of blood or other vital evidence. Khandi Alexander This young woman plays Alexx Woods who is the Chief Medical Examiner for the CSI MIAMI team. She is a really dedicated person who ?talks? to the dead people, and apologises for their misdemeanour. All the team of investigators await her findings and then really go to town to find the person?s killer. I think Alexx?s job is very demanding and extremely interesting, as she prods and probes to find how deaths occurred. Sofia Milos The final main character of CSI MIAMI is Yelina Salas, who is the Police Detective of the Miami Dade County Police Department. Yelina has come into series 2 of CSI MIAMI, and we have found out th
at she is related to Horatio by the way of being married to his brother, who was a Police Officer. He died tragically a while ago in a drugs deal that went pear-shaped. The Programme As with CSI, I think the photography and special effects are superb. The views of Miami and surrounding areas are great. But the special effects really make the show the fantastic viewing it is, such as slow motion action of bullets entering the victim and splattering muscle and other body parts. Overall I think CSI MIAMI is a well written, well produced and well acted TV show, that brings home all the dangers and perils of living in Florida. The story lines are really varied and you get many twists and red herrings. You are not sure of the outcome of the programme until the very end. I find this is a particularly interesting aspect of CSI MIAMI . CSI MIAMI lasts for 1 hour. The 1st series began in September 2002 and I feel the show has gone from strength to strength, with series 2. So, if anyone has not watched this intriguing programme I can certainly recommend CSI MIAMI.
