I generally don't watch a lot of TV (apart from sports coverage), and I very rarely watch sitcoms. However, Curb Your Enthusiasm is an exception to the rule, and i've been addicted since it was first shown in the UK a few years back.
'Curb' is a sitcom which is the concept of Seinfeld creator Larry David. In the show, David plays himself, struggling with life's many mundane dilemma's. Whilst meaning well, he manages to upset the majority of people around him, and usually gets into a lot of trouble.
I first started watching Curb your Enthusiasm a couple of years back when they were showing episodes on More4. I always caught the end, or came in half way through an episode, but the bits I saw were enough to get me interested. This led to me buying the box set of Season 1, and I'm glad I did, as I would now rate Curb Your Enthusiam as perhaps the funniest show on TV.
I would imagine there would be quite a few people who don't like this show - and that's fair enough, as the humour isn't for everyone. What I personally like about it, is the way Larry David deals with everyday situations and exaggerates them ten-fold. There are certainly issues in each show which every viewer could relate to, involving normal everyday situations.
My favourite episode is the infamous 'Beloved Aunt', where Larry is responsible for a typing error in an obituary which leads to the article reading "Beloved C***".
We don't really have a British show that Curb is that similar to - although we could say it's a much funnier, X-rated version of 'One Foot in the Grave' - but it's much better than that. Wikipedia says that 'lead Balloon' is the UK equivalent - but again, that doesn't quite match up.
Now onto Season Six, Curb Your Enthusiasm is as good as ever - just as i'd thought Larry David couldn't possibly get himself into any more trouble - he does. Managing to insult anyone and everyone, including Heather Mills - who mistakenly thinks Larry has called her a 'freak' - this series goes from good to great.
There have been cameo's throughout the entire series, and the celebrities who appear are generally Jewish actors and comedians - for example Ben Stiller, Ted Dansen, David Schwimmer, Dustin Hoffman and Sacha Baron Cohen. In the latest season, the celeb count is still high, with names including; Ben Stiller (again), John Mcenroe, Lucy Lawless and John Legend to name just a few.
I really recommend Curb Your Enthusiasm - although if your a newcomer, I do recommend going back to the start and working you're way up from there.
Each box set generally costs around £10 from Amazon, or you can get the whole lot for £49.98.
Summary: Fab Comedy
