Background
~~~~~~~
Cybill Sheridan (played by Cybill Shepherd) is a forty something who never qite hit the big time as an actress. She has two daughters, one who still lives at home, and one who is married with a baby, and spends much of her time with her next door neighbour and best friend Mary Ann, a bitter divorcee on the brink of alchoholism.
Cybil also has two ex-husbands, and we get to see a lot of Ira, who is the father of her younger daughter, Zoey. Ira is a writer who often turns to Cybill for inspiration.
Many of the plots centre on Mary Ann enlisting Cybill to help in her latest plot to get revenge on Richard, her ex-husband, also known as Dr. Dick. Naturally, these plots always go horribly wrong, and leave Cybill and Mary Ann looking like idiots...in fact, Cybill usually looks like an idiot!
My Opinion
Now, Cybill is not one of *the* great comedies like Cheers or Friends, but it's good viewing when you don't want to devote much energy to concentrating. It's often very anti men, and many of the best jokes come from Zoey, Cybill's daughter. Nevertheless, it's a good lightweight programme, and always makes me laugh at the end of a hard day's work.
