Advantages: Hilarious interviews, great catchphrases

Disadvantages: Not really for kids

I only picked up on the Ali G phenomenon just before he finished on the 11 O'clock Show. I kept hearing people at work quote some of his classic catchphrases like 'Booyackasha' and 'Respect' and I hadn't a clue what they were on about. Finally I got around to watching the 11 O'clock Show once and didn't think much of the show itself but the Ali G bit was hilarious. He was doing an interview with an American FBI bloke and I just couldn't believe some of the qustions he was asking him.

Rightly so, Ali G got his own show on Channel 4. He stuck to doing similar sorts of things, spoof interviews, playing up to the gangster image but at the same time taking the p**s out of himself. One of the funniest sketches was the guy from Kazakhstan who was on holiday in England and was doing things like going to a regatta and trying to understand cricket.

One of the strange things about Ali G is that you never see him (or at least Sacha Baron Cohen) in public. Apparently he's a really shy person and hates the limelight. I think this is why he's decided (or at least the last I heard) not to make another series. Shame but Ali G will live on, possibly even doing a bit of rapping on Madonna's next song!
