Advantages: Fantastic skill involved, good to see celebs trying something new, great hosts, fun to watch
Disadvantages: Some of the celebrites are not very well known
Dancing on ice is a series on ITV usually aired on a Saturday or Sunday evening. It has a group of celebrities who many of them have never even tried on a pair of ice skates. They are paired up with a professional ice skater who takes them under their wing and under the guidance of themselves an the famous skaters Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean, each week they progress and learn more moves and become more competant on the ice. Each couple have to perform a routine that they get a week to practice and each week there is a "required element" which is a move that must be included in the routine.
Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby are the hosts of the show along with the professional skaters Torvill and Dean and there are 5 judges - Karen Barber, Nicky Slater, Robin Cousins and Jason Gardiner, and Ruthie Henshall. Jason is known as the tough judge, and is seen to be to Dancing on Ice to what Simon Cowell is to X Factor.
The skaters are given marks out of 6 by all the judges, which is the same as a real skating competition and some contestants have become so professional that that have even achieved the perfect score of 30 out of 30 which is a flawless performance.
The public phone vote determines which two couples will be in the skate off. These 2 couples will then skate again and the judges then decide who will be saved and who will go home.
Phillip and Holly make a great team presenting the show along with the expertise of Torvill and Dean. The remaining two couples at the end of the series get to perform the famous Bolero routine that Torvill and Dean received top marks for back in the 1994 Olympics in their memorable purple outfits. The Bolero that they perform is a routine that the final couples choreograph themselves so it is a unique performance.
The last series was amazing with the finalists Chris Fountain who plays Justin in Hollyoaks and singer and actress Suzanne Shaw, both perfoming amazingly and there was hardly anything to split them. In the end Suzanne Shaw won. She did a flawless amazing and graceful performance and looked as if she had been doing it for years.
It is quite amazing how the celebrities put so much effort into the skating and become so fantastic in such a short time. If you like Ice Skating and you like watching celebrities trying their hand at something new then you will love this show. Some of the moves, twists and leaps that are performed are breathtaking, and it is hard to believe that they have learned to skate, let alone carry out such complicated and dangerous moves in such a short time.
Summary: A fun show that all the family will enjoy
