Advantages: entertaining show, you'll be suprised how good they are

Disadvantages: can get repetitive

Dancing on Ice came to our televisions back in January 2006, so far three series have been made and the show has been a real hit with the viewing public. Fronted by the Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby the show involves ten celebrities (each partnered by professional ice dancers) who have to dance each week in front of a panel of five judges referred to as the 'Ice Panel.' Each of the judges votes their performances between 0.0 and 6.0, this constitutes fifty percent of their overall score, the other half coming from the public vote. When the leader board has been determined the bottom two celebrities have to battle it out to stay in the show in 'the skate off.' Once both pairs have skated the panel then decide who stays and who goes.

The show is basically the same as Strictly Come Dancing, except this time the dancing takes place on ice, which I think is more entertaining. As the weeks pass the quality of the celebrity skaters gets better and better, but in my opinion as with shows like the X-Factor the best episodes are always the first few. During this time the celebrities are a bit wobbly on the ice and many of them fall over, although this is rather unfortunate for them it can be quite funny for the viewer, so long as they aren't injured in the process of course!

I believe the skaters receive professional training advice from Torvill and Dean who also feature every week on the show opening and closing each episode with their own dance routine. Some of the celebrities do get very good by the end of the series, Chris Fountain the former Hollyoaks actor was excellent when he appeared on the show during the third series, but I believe he did play Ice Hockey as a child.

Overall, the show is pretty good. One of the better Saturday night television programmes. If you like Strictly Come Dancing then you'll love this because it's basically a hyped up version. Enjoy!

Former winners of the show:
Series One - Gaynor Faye (actress)
Series Two - Kieran Bracken (rugby player)
Series Three - Suzanne Shaw (former singer)

Thanks for reading.

Summary: better than other shows on a Saturday night
