Dancing on ice 2009
About the show
Dancing on ice is a reality show which in my opinion is the best reality show there is for celebrities it is the show which requires the most skill and work because not only do they have to master the skating (trust me skating on ice can be hard enough) but they also have to dance while skating. The show is presented by both Phillip Scoffield and Holly Willoby who are brilliant presenters who have a bit of banter with the judges which makes it funny to watch. The celebrities each week will learn a new routine and then will be judges out of 6 by the each of the 5 judges, the judges will give their opinion on how each celebrity has performed which sometimes isn't very good but each celebrity are competitive and always improve every week and if they don't the judges let them know what they are doing wrong. The score that the judges give them is only worth 50% of their overall mark and then it is up to the public to vote for their favourite for the other 50% and this sometimes leaves the best skaters in the skate off. This is when the 2 celebrities with the lowest score have to skate again and then the judge's vote on which celebrity they want to save.
Judges (also known as the' Ice Panel')
Karen Barber (she coaches the celebrities) so always knows how well they have progressed, Robin Cousins, Ruthie Henshall, Nicky Slater and Jason Gardiner who has the reputation as the nasty judge and sometimes can be a bit harsh and each celebrity dreads hearing his comments.
Celebrities
The girls
Zoe Salmon- she is an ex Blue Peter presenter and is one of the best out of the girls but has ended up in the bottom 2 even though she got one of the highest scores which goes to show that it can be a popularity contest but I always enjoy seeing her routines as she always gets better.
Roxanne Pallett- she is an ex Emmerdale actress and although she got a lot of harsh comments from the judges I found that she is quite a good skater but there is strong competition and I thought that she isn't just as good as some of the other celebrities. She got voted of this week against Zoe.
Melinda Messenger- she is an ex model and TV presenter she is fun to watch and is very energetic and smiley she improved every week but she went up against Jessica and was voted of.
Jessica Taylor- she was in the band Liberty X and is one of the best skaters she has also been in the bottom 2 which I was shocked at because I always enjoy her performances. She got some stick in the media because she had already stared in a similar show and had some experience but I think that she is brilliant and should be in the final.
Gemma Bissix- she was in both Hollyoaks and Eastenders and was voted of in the 1st show which I thought was unfair because she wasn't the worst out of all the skaters and thought that she would have done well in the show if she had of been given the chance.
Colleen Nolan- she is on Loose women and isn't the best dancer but is entertaining to watch and is clearly very popular as she continually gets the lowest scores and never ends up in the skate of.
The boys
Donal MacIntyr- he is an ex TV presenter and every week gets better and better he has ended up in the skate of and has survived.
Ellery Hanley- he is a former rugby player and is very funny to watch but he tries hard and is entertaining he was voted of a few weeks ago.
Graeme La Saux-he is a former England football player he was voted and wasn't as good as the other boys.
Jeremy Edwards- he was a former Hollyoaks actor and was quite a good skater and I was shocked when he was voted of the show.
Micheal Underwood- he is a TV presenter and appeared on last year's show until he broke his leg but came back this year to give it another go. He isn't very good at balancing on the ice but tries hard but has been voted of the show.
Ray Quinn-he starred in the X factor he is the best on the show and was the 1st in the show to get all 6's and is the favourite to win.
Todd Carty- he is an ex Eastenders actor and was the worse on the show he could barely skate never mind dance but he didn't get voted for a few shows and he even skated of the stage by accident in one of his routines which was extremely funny but it came to an end when he ended up in the bottom 2. I loved watching Todd and was disappointed when he left but he knew that he couldn't compete against the rest of the contestants.
Conclusion
I would recommend this show to anyone who enjoys reality programmes and the best part of the show is Torvill and Dean who are famous for their routine Bolero which they won gold at the Olympics. Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean make up the routines for the celebrities to what suits their abilities and they always perform a routine which I always love to watch because they are a brilliant skating couple.
Dancing on ice is on every Sunday evening around half 6 or 7 it sometimes changes so keep an eye on the TV listings and then it goes off for an hour and comes back on with the skate off.
Summary: something entertaining to watch on Sunday
