Advantages: it smells

Disadvantages: sentimental slush

This show is one of the most drippy, wet and sentimental pile of slush on our television screens at the moment.

The show involves a group of American teenagers who live in a small town on the edge of a creek (hence the title). As with most programmes about teenagers, they have all been out with one another, and the actors who are playing 16-18 year olds are well into their twenties. Where DC is different and even more irritating than others shows, is that all the characters talk in overtly philosophical mush. When have you ever head a sixteen year old say things like, 'Stop wallowing in adolescent turmoil and post-pubescent volatility, Dawson' ?

I sometimes just want the characters to act like normal teenagers and have a good old strop with their parents, but no, instead they'll go and have a go on the swings and talk about the meaning of life or something.

The main characters are Dawson (James van de Beek) Pacey (Joshua Jackson) and Joey (Katie Holmes) who have now formed a love triangle. In the last series Joey just could not decide who to go out with, and there were numerable lop-sided grins and shrugging of pathetic shoulders to go with the wry smiles as Dawson and Pacey vied for her. After a while it just got boring, and when she eventually chose Pacey, it was even worse. Whenever she and Pacey talk, Dawson always seems to spring up, and she'll say something like 'Dawson is in my head, but you are in my heart' Excuse me while I vomit.

Other characters include the necessary gay bloke, Jack, and two other girls, Jen and Andie. Their lives and stories involve more sentimental slush as the main three, and there are usually three huge cheesy moments in every episode.

Having said all this, DC is a dreamy and enjoyable 40 minutes that if taken seriously has a huge effect on many teenagers, and if not (as in my case) provides many laughs. The attractive surroundings and wishy-washy acting goes well
with the same sort of soundtrack.

Overall, I would recomend this-if you like sentimental shows and films and philosophy this is for you, also all the stars are very attractive and the sets and landscapes are pretty. But if you want a more realistic and gritty drama this is bound to make you laugh.

Never watched it myself but it never sounded that great, maybe I'll love it if I do but I don't think I'll bother even giving it a try unless I'm bored.

You've made a lot of great oints, and its a good opinion, but I still love this show, although I do find it odd every time I'm reminded they're supposed to be about 17!
