Advantages: Errm... there must be one... Oh.. some of the background music's OK, I suppose.

Disadvantages: Ghastly. Horrible, unbelieveable characters, dialogue and storylines.

I don't think I know a man who hasn't at some point been physically assaulted by his girlfriend for making an unkind comment about Dawson's Creek. It's a program I really can't understand the appeal of, yet it seems to be incredibly popular. It centres around a group of good looking, sickeningly self righteous and pompous teenagers somewhere in idyllic America. I say teenagers, but the average age of the 'teen' cast appears to be about 28. I find the characters not only to be unbelievable but unlikeable too. They wouldn't dream of smoking, certainly think twice about getting drunk more than once a year, and are the kind of proud virgins that you just never meet. Not only do they uphold these unrealistic standards, but the ram them mercilessly down the throat of anyone who doesn't share their morals. An example of what I presume is supposed to be realistic dialogue I recently witnessed went:

Obviously promiscuous (and therefore evil) cheerleader type: "Do you like to party?"

Self righteous, pompous leading character: "Do you mean do I drink and do drugs, or do you mean do I like to have fun?"

This is the way all the central characters we are supposed to empathise with behave. I find it just makes me incredibly angry. Tell me if I'm wrong but any REAL person walking around spouting this kind of rubbish day in day out would surely deserve a slap.
I've found myself unable to watch the program long enough to see what the story lines are like - from what I've grasped, it's an eternal loop of unrequited love, parents getting divorced and regrettable romances. Any more than that I've yet to see, but this may be because I've walked out 10 minutes into every episode I've started watching feeling very, very angry indeed.
And still, my girlfriend loves it. All I have to do is ask an innocent question like 'Why is Dawson still at school when he's quite
clearly 37 years old?' and I get a punch in the kidneys. I'm the lucky one- I have friends who have been stabbed for less.

what i can't handle is when anyone asks anyone a question they get a 30 minute answer,- These kids seem to have swallowed a dictionary. and everything they do is such a moral dilemma - i feel like shouting "JUST GET ON WITH IT" at the tv. - These kids seem to have swallowed a dictionary.
