Dead Like Me

Description: Created by Bryan Fuller (II). Series about life after life.

Newest Review: ... cancelled after only two seasons which I think I'm safe in saying was, like George's death, far too premature. Fortunately however after looking into some details about the sow in order to write this review I've noticed that a new made for DVD film has just finished filming and is due for release in 2009. There is also the possibility that a new series will be commissioned if the results of ... more

Premium Review Dead Like Me: A Reaping Good Time. (1180 words)

If you're wondering what that strange yellow light emanating from your monitor is, it's this review, glowing gold, sparkling with the praise contained within. Because sometimes, a TV show is just so brilliant you can't be anything but as positive as a cheerleader on speed. 'Dead Like Me' is the story of Georgia 'George' Lass. She's an 18-year-old virginal college drop-out with a large dose of snark and couldn't-care-less attitude. She doesn't know what to do with her life and she doesn't much care. And then, she dies. Instead of passing on, George becomes a 'Reaper'. It becomes her job to take the souls from people, moments before they die. She is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Not quite Dead yet! (441 words)

Dead Like Me was a quirky television show that ran for two seasons (29 episodes) from 2003 to 2004 before being cancelled. The story begins as Georgia 'George' Lass, a young college drop out, returns home to her family only to be killed by a falling toilet seat. In a normal show that rather unfortunate and embarrassing death would likely mean the end of the show but in Dead Like Me it's just the beginning. George in fact becomes a reaper which in effect means she reaps the souls of people just before they die. The character of George is quite emotionally cold and a bit of a loner, despite this as an audience you can't help but warm to her; Ellen Muth does a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dead Like Me: Great idea for a show very well executed (174 words)

Dead Like Me was a very funny show with a hell of a lot of attitude. It tells the story of a girl who is killed (by a toilet seat from a space station) and how she is chosen to be a Grim Reaper after her death. But she cannot quite move on and starts stalking her old life, watching her family get on with their lives after she has died and getting a job back in the place where she worked brielfy as a temp just before the accident happened. Reality bends round her so people don't see she is the same person any more and the only real friends she has now are Reapers too, all with their own problems and issues and a bit of an inability to let go of their previous lives. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A funny show that doesn't deserve to be dead (192 words)

This is a quirky, offbeat comedy created by the same guy who created Pushing Daisies (although Dead Like Me came first). The premise is that Georgia Lass, aka 'George' (played by Ellen Muth) is hit by the toilet seat of the space shuttle Mir. Upon her death she becomes a grim reaper, taking the souls of those about to die in accidents. The accidents are some of the funniest parts of the show (though can be gory). The deaths are generally set up so that you think you know how the person is going to die, only for a sudden twist to prove you completely wrong. Other than that the comedy is mainly to do with George's interaction with the other reapers ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dead Like Me: Good or bad, either way you're screwed!! (705 words)

The basic story George Lass is 18, she dropped out of College and is wasting at home much to her mothers disgust, so one morning her mum gets her out of bed and sends her back to “Happy time” which is an employment agency, unfortunately the day before she told her new boss Deloris what she thought of her and so ends up in the basement surrounded by files. So after a lot of not so hard work George goes out on her lunch hour (which because of a survey is only 35mins). And is hit by a toilet seat from the Russian space station which kills her instantly. She appears a few meters away from where she died and meets Rube and Betty who are Grim ...  Read the complete review
