Dead Set ... the Big Brother house.

Newest Review: ... of reality, angling the show from a voyeur point of view, showing the runs around the house, the production studio, Davina off screen, all the things you don't normally see on the show. When the zombies first start coming on, I expected for some reason to see some form of comedy. However, what we got wasn't this at all, and as the body count starts to mount, and word gets out, widespread ... more

Premium Review Dead Set: Everyone, we're coming to get you!!!!! (496 words)

A year ago, to coincide with Halloween, the clever guys over at Channel 4 decided that, in order to help push the upcoming series of Celebrity Big Brother, they would release this 5 part series, giving us a drama featuring the reality TV show, but with a zombie twist. The story starts as the BB house is on the verge of an eviction night. While Davina McCall is announcing the evictee, unbeknownst to everyone, the production area of the house is overrun with zombified people. Apparently, there has been a mass outbreak of zombies, and now we're all at risk. What we get right from the off is a slight sense of reality, angling the show from a voyeur ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Reality TV to Die For (506 words)

Dead Set revolves around the Big Brother house, who remain uninformed (but not for long) after the sci-fi standard zombie outbreak which engulfs outside. We follow three overlapping story lines. Kelly, a drone of the Big Brother production team, her boyfriend Riq and her bastard of a producer. It's written by Charlie Brooker, who I admire for his Screenwipe & Newswipe programme so I did sort of have hopes for this. Brooker has obviously been watching his Big Brother as manages to get the typical contrasting Big Brother housemates: a blonde slag, a chav type, an old pervert, a camp guy and a fame seeking playboy. As you ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dead Set: Not scary - just long (174 words)

Plot: Big Brother 20XX, and the country has been taken over by Zombies, only the contestants don't know. But they will soon. Acting: Poor at best, it's a cheap laugh, and as such has the acting talent to go with it. Davina McCall's blood soaked cameo is entertaining but certainly not likely to win any awards. Overview: I think you need to take this at face value. It was a "Shaun of the Dead" style film, done on a low budget, and used as a marketing tool to get people interested in Big Brother again, OK it is watch able, but in 3 hours nothing ever really happens. As with most of the new age "horror" films there is a twist at the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dead Set - Oh my god, so scary! (183 words)

Well, I have only just watched this after having it on my Sky Plus for ages. To be honest I really expected it to be a poor effort at a horror movie however it really could rival some top horror moviezs that have been made. It is written by Charlie Brooker who is known for his comedy however this was released on Halloween originally in 2008 and screened on E4 in a 5 part series. It was then released to coincide with Celebrity Big Brother in a 3 part series on Channel 4. So what is it about, well it takes the mick out of everything that big brother is and everything that zombie movies are. It is set around a series of BB showing behind the scenes with all the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dead Set: Bloody offal or biting satire? (1812 words)
by - written on 10/01/09 (Very useful, 262 readings)

I had no idea what to expect from this, other than it was a brilliant idea by CH4, and lets face it, how many brilliant ideas do Channel Four have these days. That idea in question was to spoof Big Brother in the cruelest and most self-deprecating of ways, the house being over run by zombies, what most people think about the cretins who apply to go on the show, spinning as much satire off the back of that scenario as possible... Watching Dead Set was almost as if Channel Four, by funding this mini-series, were subconsciously fed up of the bloody show and the tiresome anchor it has become to the station - stale, uninventive and tacky... a carbuncle that is now the ...  Read the complete review
