Advantages: ...it has ad breaks
Disadvantages: It exists
There was once a TV show on saturdays called Noels House Party which was effectively a light hearted and Childish TV show that filled the late evening slot on on of the BBC channels. Incorporating celebrities, a (then) little known Neil Morrisey, slime, a man in a large pink and yellow suit called Mr Blobby and the host Noel Edmonds. After the show went off the air poor Noel also seemed to vanish.
Then a few years later Channel 4 snapped up the former star to host their new show Deal Or No Deal. In which covertants would be taking part in a glorified gambling session with a jackpot prize of quarter of a million and a minimum prize of a penny. The contestants each pick one of the numbered boxes before the show and are selected at random to "play" the game of Deal Or No Deal. The player playing picks the other boxes from the remaining contestants who then open the box to reveal an amount inside whilst hoping its low. After this has been repeated a few times a phone will ring and an offer will be made for the players any where they are asked whether they want to deal or not. Simple really.
Well overall the game is a clever concept or risk, chance and gambling. Sadly however the ethos of the show has made it into a gameshow parody. The players have started, no doubt under the persistence of Noel, to talk about positive thinking and good energy as if the game is actually effected by the players have a little dance or holding hands. They sadly therefore all seem rather "special" and their individual stories become meaningless as the people just come across as idiots.
The banker (the person who apparently makes the offer) seems like a faceless no one that Noel, trying to be funny makes comments about. Sadly for the previous friend of Mr Blobby he falls into the typical trap of actually thinking what he says is witty, sharp and intelligent. Sadly its full, uninteresting and pointless. Which actually seems to sum up the show full stop.
The show personally is tedious, boring and too full of pointless behaviour by the contestants thats merely irritate. With big appeal apparently and described as being high tension its hard to see where the idea of each of these has come from. It appears more like a long winded way for channel 4 to fill a few hours with quite a cheap to make show full of crazy psuedo new age hippies.
Overall another dire program from 4 for the early evening or late afternoon slot. When will they realise that they only have countdown worth watching around that time of day.
Summary: More pointless garbage from Channel 4

- 08/09/09 So true. As Charlie Brooker said: "I'd love to on the show, give Noel a slip of paper and say 'Those are my numbers, you read them out and I'll just sit here and watch'" - In the space of a 30 minute show they could get through about 10 of those games. |
