Advantages: Great story lines
Disadvantages: Another thing I have to watch
I came to the crime series Dexter rather late and once I saw a few episodes and started to get into it I really regretted not watching it from the start, thanks to DVD releases I have now caught up with past episodes and this really is a super Amercan series.
Dexter is actually a killer and a bit of a psychoath but he also works as a police forensic expert in Miami and both routes his life has taken are linked to the trauma he sufferred as a young child when he was discovered next to his dead mother covered in blood. The character of Dexter is played by Michael C. Hall who was also in another great American show Six Feet Under.
Granted his vitims are all murderes who escaped the justice system but even so the whole vigilanty thing does not make him an instantly likeable character, he works aongside his adoptive sister who is a police officer and has no idea about his secret other life.
What I like about this show is that you learn about his past life through flashbacks which allows you to build an understanding of the character.
It can be a bit gory at times however no more than an average episode of CSI. The acting is excellet and there is a good supporting cast and I like the way that the storylines are adapted and interwoven with each other.
Summary: Excellent crime drama
