***What is it?***
A cartoon for children and adults alike! Its all about a little boy called Dexter who loves science. He has a secret laboratory in his room (accessed via a moving bookcase) where he conducts experiments and builds things.

Dexter's appearance is very amusing- he's a tiny midget with a mop of curly red hair and thick Clark Kent glasses. He's always wearing a lab coat which his mother refers to as his "play clothes".

Dexter has an annoying older sister called DeeDee who pesters him all the time and ruins his experiments. DeeDee, unlike Dexter's parents, knows that he has a lab and is always getting in there. (This is implausible as Dexter is a genius and surely would be able to keep DeeDee out, but this is something Dexter fails to do and that annoys him.)

Dexter's parents are both funny and very "normal". The dad is a glasses-wearing, newspaper reading nice family man. The mum is always in rubber gloves and is obsessed with cleaning. Both are very likeable characters.

We follow Dexter as he has adventures, sometimes with his experiments going wrong (there was the Jekyll and Hyde one-which DeeDee drank...), and sometimes he has to battle his arch-enemy Mandark.

Mandark is another glasses-wearing geek with a Dark Side. He and Dexter are fiercely competitive and Mandark is always trying to sabotage Dexter. Mandark loves DeeDee however, but she doesn't know he's alive.

***When's it on?***
Cartoon Network show this at various times of the day. Sadly, it's not on as much as it used to be, with the likes of Ben 10 *scoffs* on instead. They always replace the classics with something far less gravy, don't they?

***My Opinion***
I love this little guy! He's so cute and funny. One thing I never got though...why does he have a Russian accent when he's American with two American parents?? Maybe its the science thing...the best scientists once upon a time were Russian and with Dexter's love for robots and space that's the only (barely plausible) reason I could come up with!

My favourite episode is the Omelette Du Fromage episode. Because I think it's genius I'm going to tell you the plot. (Based on memory from about 7 years ago!!)

Dexter is so busy in his lab that he fails to study for his French test at school. He gets to the end of the day and realizes that he has run out of time. So he takes the only route he can think of- he puts a Learn French tape into a walkman and puts on the headphones before he goes to sleep. During the night the tape plays while Dexter sleeps. Unfortunately the tape gets stuck and plays the same thing over and over again...the words "omelette du fromage" (cheese omelette in case you don't know).

In the morning Dexter gets up and goes to school. In the playground some girls approach him and when Dexter opens his mouth to speak the only thing that comes out of his mouth is "omelette du fromage". Dexter is shocked and struggles to say something else- something has gone wrong. He's lost all his vocab and can only say those three little words! Instead of this being a bad thing, the girls swoon at his French accent and Dexter suddenly has got loads of female attention! When bullies approach him to beat him up Dexter is nervous..."omelette du fromage!" he yelps- and suddenly the bullies turn away in fear- "hey man, its cool!".

Dexter strolls into class feeling good about himself. But now it's time for the French test and the teacher has summed up the entire French curriculum in one question...poor Dexter, what's he going to do?? He can only say one thing! He turns over the exam paper which says "What is 'cheese omelette' in French?" Unbelievable! Of course, when Dexter writes his answer omelette du fromage, he gets an A!

After this Dexter's life skyrockets as he records a hit single (called, you guessed it omellette du fromage), becomes a big celebrity and life is good. Dexter is in a brilliant mood- he's had the perfect day all thanks to his new- albeit limited- vocab! He goes to his room, moves the book to reveal his secret lab and is faced as usual with his computer asking him for the password (which at the start of the episode we see is "star wars"). "Omelette du fromage" he says confidently. "Access denied" says the computer. "Omelette du fromage!" he tries again, "access denied". The computer speaks again "laboratory will self-destruct in 5...4...3..." Dexter is getting desperate and begins to bang the doors in tears of desperation screaming "omelette du fromage!" . "...2...1" And the lab explodes. Hahahaha! Awful for poor Dex, I know but after having such a brilliant day the last thing you'd expect is that his lab would blow up! Classic.

Summary: Perfect for adults and nothing bad in it for kids- a U rating for this would be accurate!
