Advantages: Cosy afternoon viewing

Disadvantages: Plot lines can be a little over the top

I've never been an afternoon television type of person, mainly having been at work 9-5pm Monday to Friday. Since having my daughter, I have reduced my hours down to 4 days a week and whilst my daughter has her nap on a Monday, I have found myself tuning into Diagnosis Murder.

I came across it by chance one day and had it on in the bankground whilst I was doing the ironing. Somehow (and I have no idea how), I ended up paying attention to it and I think I may well now be addicted!

The series first aired in the early 90's and follows Dr Mark Sloan (Dick Van Dyke) who works in a hospital but somehow gets dragged into every murder investigation in the area. In addition Dr Sloan's son (Dick Van Dykes son in real life!), Steve Sloan is a Lt in the LAPD, which brings a whole load of other murders onto his doorstep.

It is very similar to Murder she Wrote and is completely cheesy with some unrealistic and some plain silly storylines, but it somehow drags you into it and is a comfortable easy watch. After initially being cancelled after it's second season in the US, it returned as a mid season filler and was then renewed for a further six series, running until 2001, proving that there is something strangely addictive about it!

Summary: If you can sit through one, you'll be addicted!

I agree with this. I groaned when this came on at the gym. I'm not a great fan of day-time TV. However, I actually quite enjoyed it.
