Advantages: One of the very best characters in Dr Mark Sloan

Diagnosis Murder is a murder detective show that involves a doctor played by Dick Van Dyke, solving unsolvable murders. The show revolves around Dick Van Dykes character, Dr Mark Sloan, who is chief of medicine at Community General Hospital, but is also a consultant to the police department.

The way the show works is that either there is a case that is related to the hospital work of Sloan or a case at the police department. Within these two settings there are a number of charcters that help Sloan soves cases, such as Sloan's son Steve, who is played by the real life son of Dick Van Dyke, Barry Van Dyke; who play a detective in the homicide division.

In the hospital there are a number of characters such as Dr Amanda Bentley, who is the pathologist at the hospital, Dr Jack Steward who only appeared in the first and second series, Dr Jesse Travis who was brought in to replace the departing Steward. Although there are these characters that are included within the show, it could be said that these were no more than support characters. As the show would be able to carry on as normal, even if on these characters were to be removed from the show.

The focus of the show would be, there has been a crime that has been committed, such as a murder and no matter how good the murderer has covered their tracks Dr Sloan always manages to track him or her down.

What really makes the show is the good scripts and character interactions between, as although the show is mainly based on solving crimes it is the character interactions that makes the show what it is. One of the reasons that I liked watching the show was because how good Dick Van Dyke was in the role of Mark Sloan, as he played the role as a sort of kind grandfather than everybody loves.

I would recommend the show to anybody that loves mystery shows, although by now I would recon that almost everybody has watched the show as it is constantly repeated by the BBC.
