Advantages: none really except when they have good items
Disadvantages: dull show, the experts are irritating
Dickinson's Real Deal is an antiques based daytime television show. First broadcast in November 2006 the show has lasted three series so far, totaling over 160 episodes and is still going strong today. It is shown every weekday around lunchtime on ITV.
As you've probably guessed by the shows title, or you already know, the show is hosted by the colourful (in more ways than one because he's bright orange!) David Dickinson. Each episode lasts approximately half an hour. The format is simple. Punters bring their antiques onto the show, sit down with various 'antiques experts' to chat about the peice and then the experts will give them bids for the piece. The punters always say things like "i think it's worth a little more than that, or, i'll tell you when to stop putting your money on the table," it's quite pathetic really. The punters have a choice they can either accept the bid made by the expert or chooses to put their piece into the auction, bearing in mind that they will lose about 15% of the winning bid in commission. You can usually work out for yourself wether the items are worth anything because the punters aren't really interested in the expert and want to get straight onto the auction; I don't blame them really, it's a waste of time and is merely an attempt to make the show more appealing.
Overall, it's not that great and it's not a program I would choose to watch should I have a day off during the week.

Summary: there are better antiques shows on tv than this!
