Advantages: Entertaining

Disadvantages: The dealers

Dickinson's Real Deal is another mind numbing afternoon show, that you just can't help but watch when it comes on the TV.

Hosted by David Dickinson, it has two parts to it. The first part is filmed at at local hall of some description, recently they filmed in Ulverston, Cumbria and used the local Coronation Hall the film in. Mr and Mrs Joe Averge bring their tat along to the filming, and have it valued by 'experts', the experts will offer the owner of the goods an amount of cash, and after a bit of haggling they then have to decide if they want to take the cash, or if they want to reject the offer and risk taking the item to auction.

For those that reject the offer, they are moved onto the second part. At a later date they go to an auction and await their fate. Very often (and usually under David's guidance) they make a fair bit more at auction than the dealers have offered, but a fair majority lose money and would have been better off taking the dealers offer. They can of course cushion this by putting a reserve on their items, but many do not.

It's one of those programmes I would never go out of my way to put on, but I generally end up watching it because I have ITV on in the back ground when I'm studying.

It's also a programme that brings out your evil side! I've lost count of the amount of times I've chuckled and thought 'Ha, serves you right for being greedy', when someone has gone to auction after they've been told the dealer has offered them a decent amount of money, only for them to end up with only half the price from the auction.

Although at the same time I do think 'good on ya!' when they get a couple of hundred pound more than the dealers offer.

I know David Dickinson is really cheesy, but I don't mind his style of presenting, I think he's far more interesting and cheerful than some daytime presenters.

Some of the dealers can be a bit irritating, and very often slightly snide, but they didn't get to where they are by giving money away.

I don't think comparing it would have any relevance.

TBH there's no point in comparing Curious because if people haven't watched the other programmes, it won't make any sense to them.
