Doctor Who

Newest Review: ... had to wait for the revival under Russel T Davies and Christopher Eccleston. This was Doctor Who for the 21st century, edgy, hard hitting portrayed by one of the best actors around with solid stories and a sexy assistant. It was with sadness that Eccleston decided to do only one series but the role has been picked up brilliantly by David Tennant, far sexier and with far more interaction between the Doctor and his assistant the show is back at the top of the TV listings again. So know I'm waiting for the new Christmas special "The Waters on Mars" Then Matt Smith will take over after one more Tennant with a new series in 2011.... more

I've written a far more in depth review on Doctor Who on the TV series version, which looks at the history of the show in terms of the TV programme and the different actors who have played the role. Here I'm going to tell you about my love of the TV series, it all started for me when I was very young when Tom Baker was Doctor Who. I'm just old enough to remember him as this crazy guy who wore strange clothes had a huge scarf and spoke with a booming voice. I don't remember much about the series but can remember the scary monsters, the bright colours and the shows theme music. moving on to when I really started to understand the show, I really started watching ...  Read the complete review

Well Doctor Who is well older than me!! Its become popular once again in the last few years with the newer series with Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant playing The Doctor. The show has now become one of the most famous and best know sci-fi drama on TV. Especially with the youngsters...! When the first Doctor Who series was out, it was more of an adults TV programme, but now its got a range of followers, from 5 year old boys, right through teenage girls, college kids, young adults and old adults!!! When the first "new" series came back onto our screens I must say I was very reluctant to watch it, I HATE sci-fi, Star Wars, Star Trek, all that ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Doctor Who: DOCTOR WHO IN THE 21ST CENTURY!! A MODERN DOCTOR FOR MODERN ... (1262 words)

***DR WHO*** With the announcement of a new 11th Doctor, I thought it was timely to produce a review of where the modern doctor started. My review will concentrate upon the more recent portrayal of Dr Who by Christopher Eccleston (9th Doctor). This series really brought the franchise into the 21st Century. It had been off the air since 1989 after a run of 26 years. For anyone with young children it is essential viewing. Only one friend I have can understand my fascination, but it really is family entertainment at its best and for me, worth the BBC license fee alone. The writer Russell T Davies (creator of Queer as Folk) brought the doctor up ...  Read the complete review

I have to confess I had the inside track on who might be the new Doctor Who as we knew locally that Northampton boy Matt Smith was hot favorite for about the last two weeks after having a very good audition, yours truly having a ten pound bet on Belfair at a nice price. He used to come to the Northamptonshire County Ground when he was younger and would play cricket on the outfield at the intervals. I didn't know it was him for sure until last week. Dr Who? Indeed! The local paper couldn't run the exclusive because only six people officially knew who got the gig until last Tuesday nights contract signing when they filmed the special Saturday show on BBC1 to announce the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Doctor Who: This is one Doctor you will not mind seeing. (416 words)

I have been a fan of Doctor Who for years.I do enjoy the current series that are shown with David Tennant as The Doctor and Catherine Tate and Billie Piper amongst some of his assistants.I do prefer though when it was shown in the 1980`s as that was my favorite era and I would say had my Number 1 Doctor in Colin Baker. He had a few assistants along the way but I think the best was Perry and I remember reading an article somewhere that the actress who played her was not American and only put the accent on for the audition but she played the role well but was sadly replaced after a scene on the show. I did used to hide behind the sofa or a pillow ...  Read the complete review
