Advantages: Liz Bower! >_>
Disadvantages: Storylines
Oh how opinions can change over a few months, 6 months ago I was delibrately avoiding this show, if I could find something else to do I'd do that, if I could make an excuse to turn the TV over I would...then one day I left it one and actually watched it waiting for Neighbours...then one day became two...two became three and three became...well...lots.
With BBC's time slot switch late last year (swapping Neighbours and Doctors around), the shows now on at 1:40 until 2:10 (then the wonderful australian soap), and staright after the news. Whats the news got to do with it? Well the news is often so depressing than we need a little bit of daft TV to cheer us up, and this is about as daft as TV could be.
The characters are...well erm...actually I'm not sure...their names but anyway theirs a gobby black nurse who has an annoying voice, a pretty blonde (Liz Bower from those "most annoying" TV shows), A doctor in a wheel chair, a handsome loser of a Doctor who'se wrapped around some police lady's finger. A middle aged doctor lady, another middle aged doctor lady who's married to some lawyer, a male nurse, and an older man doctor...oh and the moody receptionist who'se bile and venom injects humour into the show.
The acting is regularly poor, and the storylines are OTT but this makes it more watchable than if the writing was good and the acting was good. It often shoots "Hollyoaks for teh beeb" at me, due to it's flaws, matching that of Hollyoaks, however the differences are...more good looking people on Hollyoaks...better acting on Doctors (I'll admit it's not difficult to beat Hollyoaks on the acting front).
Despite an underlying storyline each episode seems to have it's own "case" whether it's someone who's a nudist and wants to parade his ding a ling in public to someone who's stressed. The current main storyline is the married lady ran into the guy who's in a wheelchair (which is the reason he's got his erm...wheels) and she slept with him afterwards...pissing off her husband. Whilst blonde lady is head over heels for male nurse who doesn't totally like her...or something...
Makes for simple brainless TV viewing whilst waiting for neighbours...and Liz Bower is really pretty >_> shame she looks terrible on the show, bloody make up.
The show does occasionally seem a bit dark, like todays episode hinting at a threat to enflame someone, and one a few months back being about a heroin abuser. This added to police lady's two-facedness shows that the show probably could be very well done for later night, rather than feeling restrianed for the pre-watershed time that it's one.
Against the major soaps I'd probably say it's not up to their quality overall, but it's much more enjoyable (though neighbours is teh best anyway). Much better than eastenders and corrie thats for sure...shame about the lack of real eye candy (yeah Iamashallowlittleboy) which would really be the icing on the cake.
Summary: A bit of fun but don't take it too seriously

- 29/01/08 I need to catch up with Doctors sometime, a fabulously funny show with a nice moral twist. |

- 29/01/08 This is great if you're off sick, makes you feel much better - or wanting to go to work to avoid it. But why is Curly Watts from Corry's wife on this? |

- 29/01/08 As below I never really get chance to watch daytime tv unless I am off |
