Advantages: A new story every day
Disadvantages: Leaves you on a cliffhanger at the end of the series
Why do they put this programme on at 12.30pm? I'm sure it is worthy of a prime-time evening slot. Doctors is on BBC1 at 12.30pm every weekday and it is well worth recording to watch later. Apparently it is done by the same people as Casualty and this shows in the style of show, although Doctors is much more laid back and gentle. The series is based at a surgery and revolves around the lives of the doctors at the practice. We're well into series 2 now, and although lots has happened in the lives of the 'stars', it is easy to pick up whenever you like. There is also a story to each episode, usually involving a patient who visits the practice. The main characters are: Kate and Mac. These two oldish characters are married and are the managers of the practice. Kate runs the surgery whilst Mac is a doctor. At the beginning of this series, Mac was accused of helping an elderly lady to die (Jo's Grandma) and a lot of time was spent on the court case. He was proven not guilty, but he has lost the will to be a doctor and wants to retire to Ireland. Kate recently lost her baby and is terrified that she will lose her next one. She doesn't seem to want to retire just yet so maybe she will disuade Mac. Jo. The blonde receptionist recently lost her Grandma and is not handling it well. Maybe she was the one who helped her to die? Due to emotional problems, has given up her post to 'Candy', an identical blonde receptionist. Caroline. Used to be in Eastenders but now has straight hair and seems to counsel all the other doctors in crisis. She is best mates with Rhana and we're all waiting for them to realise that they are in love with each other. She is also a Police doctor, opening up the storyline to the police force as well. Steve. The bacholer doctor (since his wife died a year or 2 ago) who has just proposed to his new girlfriend! Bacholer no more! His wife to be is Lee (who
used to be in Brookside). Rhana. A young doctor who drives a sports car and lives in an ultra modern apartment. He has left the practice to run an internet surgery, but is looking as though he may rejoin the surgery due to financial problems Helen. A middle aged blonde doctor who is usually the 'rock' at the practice but has recently had an affair with Steve's brother Chris. After being found out, she is trying to make up with hubby Phil, who has a string of problems too. The series follows casualty's style of probing into the personal lives of the stars, whilst also having at least one 'story' per episode. They seem to have covered every thing medical, as well as most other things that could possibly happen in a lifetime. The stories are always new though, and will keep you tuning in each day to see what happens next. The series regulary features familiar faces from many other shows... you'll spend time racking your brains and delving into your distant memory to remember where you have seen them before. As I said at the beginning, record the show and watch it over your dinner, you'll soon get into the stories and be rushing home from work to catch up!
