Advantages: Dramatic., Great Daytime viewing.
Disadvantages: None
One of my favourite daytime shows, and being as there aren't many that is not doing it justice! This is a great Drama series in its 4th series. As you can probably tell by its title it is about Doctors but not set in a hospital, no its set in Riverside surgery in a place called Letherbridge. My only criticism of this show is that the Doctors seem to have far more time to see their patients and even drop by unannounced to their patients a lot of the time. So letherbridge is the place I want to move to. The Doctors surgery is run by Kate McGuire and her husband Dr Brendan McGuire, nicknamed Mac, is the senior partner in the surgery along with Dr Helen Thompson, Dr Jude Carlyle and Dr Marc Eliot and then there is Dr Ben Kwarme and Dr Kali Hamade too, both quite new to the surgery. Also at the surgery are the receptionist Katrina and Faith who is the pratice nurse. We get to see many patients come and go within one episode but recently it has all been happening to the Doctors themselves. For example while Helen was sleeping with Marc, her husband Phil and her kids were involved in a car crash along with Kali. A few days later Mack's son, Liam, was punched and left bleeding on the steps outside the surgery just as his father turned into the car park, we only found out that it was Ben who punched him, yesterday. Ben can't tell the police that he did it because he was defending Faith as she was raped by Liam a few weeks ago. Yesterdays show was excellent as it started off with a man going into Dr Marc Eliot's room and asking for his test results, which were positive, its not until later that we find out that he is HIV positive. Now he has to tell his wife of 3 years that he is firstly HIV positive and secondly a cheating scumbag who had an affair a little while back. His wife of course does not take the news well and insists on seeing the doctor as she wants to have a test herself. Its back at the surgery that w
e then find out that the results were mixed up at the hospital with someone else who has the same name- how horrible for the husband and wife and I even felt sorry for Marc Eliot too. CHARACTER DETAILS Dr Brendan McGuire (Christopher Timothy) also known as Mac, is on his second marriage, to Kate (Maggie Cronin) and they have a baby called Kieran. Mac has always been the sensible one, and often comes in to mediate between the other doctors. He is also the one that all the doctors used to go to for advice or a second opinion that was up until he had a drinking problem that got out of hand, now he has been treated for his problem and is slowly getting back to normal, well that was until his other son Liam came back, saying that his marriage has failed and he needed to start again. Dr Helen Thompson (Corinne Wicks) was happily married until she had an affair, in the last series but one, and it took ages for her and Phil to sort things out but they had finally managed it just before he was killed in that car crash I mentioned above. Dr Marc Eliot (Tom Butcher) is a bit of a strange character and both the audience and the doctors are never quite sure of how to take him, he had been chatting up Helen and Kate and leading them both on, before the night of the crash and on that night he turned down a pass made by a drunken Kate and then later on he slept with Helen. He would be the doctor to go and see if you wanted something done efficiently and without fuss, but don't expect any kind of sympathy. Dr Benjamin Kwarme (Anyon Bakare) is having what was a secret relationship with Dr Kali Hamade (Nicole Arumugan) but after an encounter with Faith a few weeks back, where she tried to seduce him he had to come clean about their relationship. Now he is one of the few people that know that Faith has been raped by Liam. Jude Carlyle (Natalie J. Robb) she is a strange one, her sister was in it a while back and they had a secret
between them which we eventually found out. I think they exausted her storylines then as she hasn't been in it much recently apart from going round to see Helen and giving her sympathy. I think that Jude would be the Doctor I would want, as she seems very nice. Faith Walker (Eva Fontaine) is the practice nurse, she used to be a great laugh up until she was raped and she is still suffering, she shares her flat with the recetpionist Katrina Bullen (Tabitha Wady) and Katrina doesn't know what went on between Liam and Faith and think that Faith is just down because he dumped her. Katrina is not as good a charcater as the last receptionist Jo, but I am steadily warming to her. Finally Liam McGuire (Tim Mattthews) who up until this afternoon was in a coma because he was punched. He thought that Faith was having fun and said no because she meant yes. He does not think that this was rape and was constantly telling her so. So there we have it, an excellent drama series that should be on in the evenings, but I don't really mind as I get to watch it anyway!! Its on weekdays 2.10pm for half an hour. Thanks for reading. Amanda
