Advantages: Inspirational and very entertaining.
Disadvantages: None!
This is an absoloutely brilliant show, and I thoroughly enjoy watching it!
Basically, a budding business person, or business people (often in the form of a couple) will approach five multi millionaires, hoping to achieve some capital to get their business going, and in exchange for some equity in the business, which might be for example 20% of the business for £100,000. The businesses are usually inventors in my experience, but they may just have a clever concept, like an online gym for example.
The five multimillionaires are known affectionately as "The Dragons" and they have varied since the start of the show slightly, but currently the five dragons are:
Peter Jones - Made his millions in telecommunications, exceptionally tall, I find him the most big headed and least likeable of the dragons, but this is just personal opinion.
Duncan Bannatyne - The straight talking Scot that mad his millions from nursing homes and health clubs, I really like Duncan Bannatyne because I think he's a very unique and interesting personality, and he has a very colourful past. He's firm but fair.
Theo Paphitis - The man from retail, he has brought on many retail establishments, like La Senza, Ryman, Partners, Contessa etc. A greek cypriot, I think I read somewhere that he has invested more than any other dragon. Very likeable.
Deborah Meaden - A lucrative tycoon from the holiday and leisure industry, though interestingly, the poorest dragon on the pannel with only £40 million. I do like Deborah, though she isn't my favourite.
James Caan - Oh my gosh! He is so nice to everyone, extremely gentle and very fair, the newest dragon, but also one of the nicest. He became rich through the recruitment industry.
I think if for nothing else, Dragons Den is worth watching for its inspirational quality, because it really does prompt you to start thinking about success and the future. Delivering a good pitch is an art, and some people are better at it than others, and it's interesting to see how people vary in their approach to securing capital.
Summary: Great Programme, one of my present favourites.
