Advantages: Fascinating products, some very funny contestants, funny put downs

Disadvantages: They chop and change the dragons a lot, perhaps a little too harsh sometimes

The first time I stumbled across this, it was completely by accident and came as a result of some late night channel hopping and this has now become a fixture in my television viewing.

The basic premise for the show is that budding entrepreneurs who are looking to secure some quite serious financial backing to realise their dreams of perhaps starting a flourishing business are given the opportunity to do so to a group of 5 businessmen who have become multi millionaires thanks to their own personal successful ventures.

There is a catch however, these men did not to get to where they are now without having an extreme eye for detail and are extremely hard to impress. So whoever steps foot inside the dragons den must firstly be absolutely confident that their product/invention is worthy enough to be backed and secondly their sales pitch must be spot on, otherwise the dragons will eat this person or group alive.

The contestants must also prepare for another gulp to, since these dragons are not the most generous of people and in return for agreeing to an investment, they will demand a huge stake in the business.

The show pits the budding entrepreneurs against the dragons in a battle of wit, determination and skill. The dragons take no prisoners and will often hold nothing back as they take great delight in savaging someones idea, or mocking the person because they don't feel the person has anything to offer on a personal level.

Some of the ideas are just downright stupid and have no marketability whereas others are great ideas but unfortunately not everyone has the most convincing of sales pitches. The dragons are very stingy but just sometimes someone will tick all the boxes and a deal will be done.

It is a fascinating, sometimes humorous show in which you are always tempted to watch just to find out what latest weird, wacky or wonderful idea is attempting to impress the judges.
