Advantages: Gripping, Action Packed, Magical in a way that is almost believable, great graphics
Disadvantages: Hardly ever on these days.
I have just recently watched Dragon Ball Evolution, which is the film based on the whole Dragon Ball franchise, and it inspired me to review popular cartoon series Dragonball Z, which was perhaps my favourite television programme when I was in primary school. The sagas are Japanese Manga style cartoons that follow the evils threatening to destroy planet earth. I have not seen them on television for years, but they used to screen on Cartoon Network.
The main characters followed in Dragon Ball Z are a family of Sayins, with Goku the father, Chi Chi the mother and Gohan and Gotenks (Sp?) as the children. The sayins are a race of very powerful people, that start off life as apes, they can fly and perform some very impressive martial arts moves, including the Marmayharmayha, where a burst of energy comes out from a sayins body to destroy evil. Certainly it was this move that defeated the Namek Piccolo in the recent movie. In the Cartoon, Piccolo goes on to become good. If a sayin masters his powers to a great enough extent, he can become a Super Sayin, where his hair will turn bright yellow, and will flare up in the sky, and where the power he can produce is rather extraordinary.
The Cartoon went through various Sagas, where the Sayins, Piccolo and others attempt to overcome one evil after another. One of the first and longest sagas was the defeat of "Freezer", and interesting white monster, who was almost undefeatable, and who would have destroyed the earth had he gone undealt with. Then we had the Androids, then we have Margin Bu, and Bu - created by the little alien Babidy.
The Cartoon is based around items called "Dragon Balls". There are seven dragon balls, that are scattered all over the earth. If you can find the seven, you can summon the dragon and make a perfect wish, for example, to bring a deceased back to life.
Overall, a very popular story based on real legend. I kind of wish this was still going on Cartoon Prime time, and I look forward to more movies being produced, based on the cartoons. The first film just scratched the surface, so I would be surprised if there are no sequels.
Summary: I used to love this!
