DrivenNewest Review: ... and Jason Plato), have the spark that the Jeremy Clarkson/Quentin Wilson/Tiff Needell Top Gear programs had, which makes for good "edutainment". It doesn't treat you like a three year old, or try and blind you with science. Yes, they do have the power-sliding, tyre smokin' articles, but they're well balanced with sensible stories. Unlike Top Gear.... Two examples come to mind: o Review of executive cars, Merc, BMW, Lexus - these got driven, (at speed), round an "assault course" to show acceleration, braking, handling, ride, etc. This was quite funny, watching JP trying to thread an S-class through a handlin... more |

I used to be a "Top Gear" fan for a long time, but since it's slide into becoming the TV version of "Revs" et al I've now got "Driven" as a worthy replacement. It covers a wide range of tastes, from mundane day-to-day shopping-trolley-with-wheels to the 200+mph supercars. I find the presenters, (Mike Brewer, Penny Mallory and Jason Plato), have the spark that the Jeremy Clarkson/Quentin Wilson/Tiff Needell Top Gear programs had, which makes for good "edutainment". OK, so I've seen the programme a few times. Not only does it display a wide variety of new cars from here in GB but also from overseas. Placed through rigorous testing, these cars are described by Jason Plato (former - or maybe he still is - TOCA touring car racing driver) and two others, one male and one female, who offer their opinions but aren't famous enough for me to know their names. Enjoyment from this programme can take a variety of forms - take the last episode I watched: The Mitsubishi Evo VII, Mini Cooper and BMW 7 Series were battling it out to be the presenter's favourite car of the series. - 1st test, an urban rally through a ... My fiance LOVES cars, the only mistress in his life is our Polo (sad but true!). So you can imagine that I am subjected to various motor media; magazines, websites, films, gran prix, games and tv. Driven happens to be his favourite tv programme and I must say it's on the way to being one of mine. No longer do I consider the car merely a means of getting from A to B, no, now I appreciate all the other things it can do! Driven is light and easy to watch, the presenters are good and get you interested in the subject. Different areas of motoring are covered each week, so there's quite a bit of variety; it's a bit like a trendy car magazine on ... Read the complete review

I really like Channel 4 - especially recently. Programs like So Graham Norton, Friends, Will and Grace, South Park and of course the wonder that is Big Brother have brightened up an otherwise dull terrestrial TV stations riddled with sadness and complete over-acting ( Eastenders and Coronation Street are the biggest culprits ). However, although these comedy programs are good my favourite is the fantastic program of Driven. As an avid car and motorsport fan - just read some of my other reviews and you'll see - Driven was the perfect tonic for such a depressing soaps and boring documentaries about the Ghana Elephant or the Madagascan Hyenas - ... Driven is light entertainment that happens to be about cars. If you go into it expecting to be entertained and on the off chance that you might find out something about the cars then you won't be disappointed. The problem is that in order to squeeze the program's content into 5 minute chunks, they don't have the time to do anything more than skimming the surface of a subject. For instance, in a recent program compared they tried cornering in the wet with one worn pair of tyres and one new pair. With the new tyres on the front, if you lifted off in the middle of a wet corner, you got a lot of oversteer. With the new tyres on the front, ... Read the complete review
