Advantages: decent prize fund, host from Stoke

Disadvantages: bit of a weird concept

Been stuck in bed for a couple of days, I have seen myself doing nothing at all apart from watching television and writing the odd review on here. I have found myself watching programs that I would never even contemplate watching and actually enjoying them. I am putting that down to being ill and being able to put up with the rubbish that is mostly on our television these days.

Duel is a new Quiz show that is shown on ITV1. The previous weeks epiosde which was the one I saw is repeated on ITV2. Hosted by Nick Hancock, a fellow Stokie, I couldn't actually make my mind up whether if was a good game show or not but I found myself watching it and then watching the next episode Saturday Evening.

How It Works

Initially there are three contestants in which two are chosen to Duel. They are seated down a the game board where each have their own board with four options A, B, C and D. There is a barrier in between them that basically stops the opponents from seeing what the other is doing on the other side.

Each player has ten coloured chip which they can use. They are both asked a question and given four answers, thats where the A, B, C and D come in and each contestant needs to answer the question by putting a chip on the correct letter. If they are not sure of what the answer is, if they have enough chips to play every potential answer then there is nothing stopping then from doing that, however it will result in keeping them in the game as they would have got the question right, but they will lose the other three chips if they have covered all four. The correct answer leaves them to keep the chip that is on that answer.

For every lost chip and extra £1000 gets added to the prize fund which currently stands at over 200,000.

The aim of the game basically is to win the duel. Contestants can go out by getting the wrong answer is they have not covered all the chips, they can go out if they run out of chip and once out they stay out and the winner of the duel is able to choose their next opponent, given a small amount of information about what they do for their occupation so they can gage if they can beat them.

An additional feature to the game is what they call an accelator. Each contestant has two of these and are able to play them, best way being if they know the answer, they can press this button which then gives their opponent only ten seconds to make their mind up what answers to covewr and cetainly does put the pressure on.

To win a duel, means that you stay in play and its only when you win two duels that a prize comes into force, which the contestants are offering the opportunity to play on with the risk of being knocked out next time and not winning anything, they are offered a prize in which then they will choose a chip. If it displays a £ sign they will win £10, 000 and walk away straight away. If they show a percentage sign, then they will win 10% of the total prize fund. To win the complete jackpot, a total of four Duels need to be won.

Its not a bad game show, not brilliant and not a great concept to be honest. On for a hour on a Saturday evening, its better than some of the other rubbishs thats on so if you are in, give it a whirl.
