Advantages: Fab wind down TV and exciting plots
Disadvantages: Not suitable for younger generations
First broadcast on BBC 1 in 1985, Eastenders has become a cult British TV soap. Love it or hate it you will probably know some of the goings on in TV's Albert Square, Walford and you undoubtedly know someone who is an avid fan. The programme appeals to all ages though I personally would suggest that those under the age of 10/11 shouldn't watch as some episodes can be confrontational and will leave you having to explan some very awkward questions to your youngsters when they really shouldn't be watching or knowing about these things as yet.
After saying all that, I love Eastenders, there said it...my name is Nicola and I am an Eastenders fan. It all happens down in Londons Walford and though you may think these antics doon't happen, I bet they do, not necessarily to the same people in the same place but you will find traits of each of the characters in Eastenders in families somewhere in the Uk. And the dilemmas they find themselves in, murder, deceit, love traingles, divorce, marriage, divorce and marriage again, parties, work troubles, money troubles, all of these plot lines will be happening to someone, somewhere. So for your enjoyment, the eastenders team have brought all of these topical issues together, bumped them up a bit to offer great viewing potential and hey presto - Eastenders is born. Of course, this wouldn't be Eastenders without your cockney accent, local pub, local market or the local allotment. Pile all of these factors in together and add a bit of spice and Albert Square and its' plotlines are born.
If you are able to watch this programme and be shown how lucky you are that you have never experienced these problems then that is great, if it shows you how not to go about solving a problem, thats great too. If any of these characters remind you of looking in the mirror, then ... well lets say no more on that!
Eastenders is a Tv programme, if you can take it as that and watch for entertainment value. Its no good getting serious about it and saying things like "but it doesn't happen in real life" because somewhere it probably did or has happened. Anyway it is a TV programme, it is meant to be based on fiction.
I think you either love it or hate it, watch an episode and make your choice!
Summary: It was him, her, them no it was.....ME!
