Advantages: Great entertainment
Disadvantages: More Barry needed
Hi to you all. I really would like to discuss Barry Evans, the chubby son of Roy Evans on the hit tv show known only as Eastenders. But first, for all you people out there, a little bit about the show. Eastenders has been running on British television for quite some time now. It is based around a Square in London. Yes, you heard me right, I said a square!! Around the square live various people. Some big, some small and some medium. There is also a market upon the square where goods are bought and sold. (For a fair price.) Anyway, Barry is one of the folk who lives on the square. He joined the show several years ago now, as a friend of David Wickes who was, at the time, having an illicit affair with Cindy Beale. Barry befriended Cindy. Barry later got ripped off by a woman he was about to marry. We, the viewer, saw it coming a mile off, but poor old Barry didn’t know what hit him. The portly fool. These days Barry seems to be doing okay. He has a new taxi company, a lovely wife called Natalie and a big chubby head that your average Eastenders fan adores. (But would not wish for themselves.) Apparently, in real life the actor who plays Barry (Shaun someone-or-other…Williamson I think) is not allowed to lose weight. It is obviously of paramount importance to the programme makers that Barry remains rotund! This is interesting and perhaps a little disappointing, A lithe, slim Barry would be an exciting proposition on a tv show largely devoid of muscular heart throbs. But I can understand that this image would not suit Barry who definitely has a ‘chubby’ personality. Before Barry arrived on the Square things were pretty dull. Sure, there was Mark Fowler but somehow he never had the same appeal. At this point I must mention that Barry is rather bald. His father, Roy also has little in the way of hair. The Eastenders creators obviously thought long and hard about this hair situation before casting the two bald
ing generations of Evans men. Well done the Beeb! When Barry arrived on the Square viewing figures soared. I remember it well, it was a very emotional time for all of us here in Britain. There was something about Barry that the nation really identified with right from the outset. I immediately liked him for his rather clumsy manner, especially when chatting to ladies. So, next time you want to watch something at 7.30 on BBC1 on a Tuesday evening, why not try Eastenders? And more to the point, try Barry Evans.

- 02/06/01 Eastenders seem to make a habit of keeping some stars at different weights - Sharon Watts as a teenager from what I remember had to put on weight. But back to Barry - loved his recent stint as a chicken - its about time the programme introduced a few (well a lot really) laughs.

- 02/05/01 Yes, apparently he even died halfway through one of his trademark "Mr. Beeeellldiiiingg" catchphrases. Poor lad. I think it was a fur ball that killed him. |

Anyway, I hope one day Ian will fall in to his vat of hot fat and Barry will eat him. |
