Advantages: Best program ever on TV., Best soap ever on TV., Best ANYTHING ever on TV.
Disadvantages: It is not on 24 hours a day., I can't see it from the USA, It ends.
Man, how I miss this show. My name is Jim, and I am an American who was stationed in the UK, at RAF Lakenheath for 9 years, and got hooked on EastEnders almost immediately! I watched religiously, with the exception of the time I spent in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. The story lines were fantastic, the suspense between episodes was truly addicting to say the least. The characters were phenomenal, (I guess I should say ARE, rather than were), the plots, the realism wrapped up with the unbelievable?it is just plain good, no, great TV. Sure it?s depressing, if you take it to heart, if you get too serious about it. Otherwise, it makes you grateful that you aren?t in their shoes?.hahaha. Well, as all good things, eventually, come to an end, I had to leave the UK, luckily with a couple souvenirs in the form of a wife and a one year old son. But when we got back here, I was so pleased to find that a local PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) station was carrying EastEnders! However, we had to wait for 18 months for it to catch up as it was that far behind the times. So, for another glorious five years, we had the pleasure of again watching the best soap ever created (this from a guy, so it MUST be good!) But once again, EastEnders, for us, came to a horrible end, when the PBS station could no longer afford to pay the greedy bastards at the BBC, who wanted something like the equivalent of £180,000 for a season. PBS is run on donations and member support only, and has a limited budget, and could not raise enough money to continue with the program. This really soured my opinion of the BBC. I mean, come on, at least the BBC was getting SOMETHING, and for a show that was 18 months behind the current episodes in the UK. So, now, since about 1999, we have not seen any more of this great show, and miss it terribly. I was so hooked, for example, that while in the UK over Easter, this year (2002) with my son, on vacation, I watched ONE episode, just to?
well, get a taste of ?home? again. Many, many new faces, as you could imagine. You think you are seeing new people on the show?don?t watch it for six years and then see how it looks! Yeah, I know, it would be impossible to NOT watch for even six DAYS, as long as you are in the UK and able to watch it, but unfortunately, I had no choice. Enjoy your soap Great Britain. You?ve got the best ever.

- 20/05/02 I like Eastenders too (I'm even sad enough to record it when I'm away on holiday so I can catch up when I get back!!). Can't you get it on BBC America in the states? I'm sure I've seen it on there when I go over. |

- 20/05/02 If its any consolation, it's not as good as it used to be; ever since they decided to put it on 4 nights a week it's been downhill. |

- 20/05/02 I am a great Eastenders fan too! Its the only prog that I fail to miss on TV! Im sorry for rating this only 'Useful', I just felt that there wasn't sufficient information about the show for people that do not know what Eastenders is!(I know its hard to believe but there are some out there!)
So, if you decide to add a paragraph more giving a quick summary of the show..please leave me an email and I will re-rate! Cheers :-) |
