Edge of Darkness is quite rightly regarded as a classic of television drama. It was first shown by the BBC in 1986, and for some reason has hardly ever been repeated on terrestrial television. However, it is available on video and DVD (although the DVD is apparently rather uninspiring), and I'd strongly recommend it as a great example of what television drama used to be like, back in the days when programme makers gave a damn. The story, written by Troy Kennedy Martin, is pretty complicated, although it never loses the interest of the viewer. Bob Peck plays a widowed Yorkshire policeman, Ronnie Craven.
