When I work nightshifts, I normally get up around 6pm and that is how I discovered Eggheads, as it is shown at 6pm on BBC two.

Eggheads is a quiz show where a panel of four or five members of the general public compete against the team of 'Eggheads'. The Eggheads are a team of five quiz champions - all of whom have won popular TV shows - and supposedly make up 'The most formidable quiz team in Britain.'

They consist of...

Judith - The first million-pound winner of 'Who Want's to be a millionaire?'. I find her slightly annoying but she does not come over as smug as some of the other panel do...

Kevin - Kevin has won many quiz shows including Mastermind and Brain of Britain. Kevin seems to be fairly quiet, and seems pretty down to earth.

Daphne - A winner of fifteen to one and going for gold, I have mixed feeling about Daphne. Sometimes she comes over as a sweet grandmother type figure, but at other times, I feel she comes over as a little bit condescending.

Chris - Another winner of Mastermind, Chris seems the most intelligent of the lot, and I'm quite indifferent to him.

CJ - Well I left CJ until last because I have the most to say. This has got to be one of the most egotistical men ever! A past winner of brainteaser and the weakest link, CJ is intensely annoying, condescending and just generally smug. He has a very annoying habit of doing this fluttery thing with his eyelashes, and can't help but show his disapproval when other people don't know an answer to a question, and has been known to make me turn the channel over before now!

So that's the panel, but how does the quiz work? Well basically there are several subjects, and when the presenter (who is either Dermot Murnaghan or Jeremy Vine) announces the subject, the challengers have to nominate a player, and the egghead they wish to play against.

They are then asked three multiple-choice questions each, and whoever has the most correct at the end of the round earns the chance to represent their team in the final. They answer in a soundproof room so their quiz team cannot help them. If the score is tied at the end of the round then it goes to a sudden death sort of round where they are given the questions without multiple choice answers, and have to keep answering until there is a winner.

One of the things I like about this quiz, is that the questions are a good level. I know this will depend on the person, but for me I find some quiz shows far too easy, and others far too hard, but for me these are a good level of difficulty.

In the final round, each challenger and each egghead who has got through to the final round represents their team whilst the others are taken to a studio where they are not permitted to help. Should the challengers win, they will get a jackpot which rolls over from previous shows so differs each time. If the eggheads win they don't get a prize, but preserve their reputation!

Overall, I quite like this quiz show, I find it very watchable and much better than some of the other quiz shows on TV at the moment, such as Who Want's to be a Millionaire, which drags on too much and The Weakest Link, which spends too much time focussed on Anne Robinson.

6pm BBC2 - definitely worth a watch.
