Emmerdale was first broadcast in 1972. It was originally titled Emmerdale Farm. The main family was the Sugdens including; Annie, Joe and Jack. Jack Sugden has is still in the show today and still remains on the farm. When it first started most of the storylines were based around farm life.

This all changed in the 80s when the title was changed to Emmerdale. - The show now revolved around village life; as well as farm life. In 1993 a major plane crash hit Emmerdale. - At this time a new theme tine was introduced and the show changed. The storylines heated up. The most controversial characters was Kin Tate; she tried to kill stepson Chris and caused husband Frank to die of a heart attack. Kim was the ultimate soap super-bitch.

Emmerdale has the Northern humour and the Northern friendliness; which makes all the characters so endearing. Emmerdale covers real-life issues; most recently the cot death storyline. I hope Emmerdale will be aroung for years to come!
