A weaker soap (Emmerdale)

Well I might as finish my round up of the main soaps on television by doing a review of Emmerdale. This soap has been on for donkeys years now and in my opinion is the soap for the older person. I do know a few young people such as my daughter's sad friends who watch this but the only other people I know who watch this are people who have had their free bus pass for a good time!

Emmerdale is one of the main soaps on the television and shows the lives of people living in a small village in Yorkshire. There probably around fifty characters in Emmerdale who are all very different, for example there is the rich family who live in a big country estate and then the family who are always looking for dodgy deals. The latter is my favourite family, the Dingles who throughout the years have had some interesting story-lines. The show has dealt with all sorts such as murder, drugs, sex, betrayal and quite a few explosions.

The writing in this soap I think has stayed pretty constant throughout the years and I think it is a mix between East Enders and Coronation Street as it isn't quite that depressing yet it doesn't have the humour that the Street does. I don't think Emmerdale is a very good programme and I watch it mostly out of habit and the fact that my husband likes it.

The acting is adequate and is pretty much what's you expect from a soap, the odd character who can't act their way out of a paper bag. The fact that this soap is on every week night does annoy me as it means I can never watch what I want to at 7pm! I did actually use to love this when it was only on twice a week but I think every night is a bit of overkill.

Overall I would say that Emmerdale is an ok soap at best but it is definitely not as good as the other mainstream soaps.
