Advantages: Sometimes quite humorous.
Disadvantages: Aimed at Women, thus leaves the males bored.
Emmerdale, formerly Emmerdale Farm, is a British Television Sopa, and one of the three most popular TV Programs in the UK at the present time.
The current product appeals to Women aged 16-86 and isnt really aimed at the Male demographic, although some of the aspects of the soap actually seem to show that the Exec's want Males to start watching the soap, even if its in a small percentage. The King Family seem to be the perfect example, however, two of the four males of that family have subsequently been 'killed off.'
As it seems to me, Emmerdale has continued the tradition of Soaps in the way they used to be produced and written, whereas Eastenders and Corronation Street have taken new directions.
The basics are that Emmerdale is a village, which contain one Pub (Woolpack), one Farm, one High End Estate (Home Farm, usually occupied by the richer people of the Village, which usually means an outside family comes into the program), and Factory in which Sewing Machinists work, and around 30 Stone-built Village Properties.
In modern day society, the Dingles are looked upon as being the 'scum' of the Village, and the term is also used as an insult to many within the Country, particularly in North West Football, where many rival fans will call their opponents 'Dingles.' Burnley Football Supporters are the most notorious in the North West for being referred to as 'Dingles.'
Summary: Theres a lot of history in Emmerdale, sadly, its only women that really care.
