Not As Boring As You Think (Emmerdale)

Advantages: Good characters; Interesting storylines

Disadvantages: Gets a bit boring sometimes

My mum and dad have always watched Emmerdale and now I'm getting addicted to it even though I have always thought it was a proper boring soap and that it should have been axed instead of Brookside.

It used to be around one family (the Sugdens) but there are only 2 Sugdens in it now and they are Andy and Victoria, Andy isn't an original Sugden though because he was adopted years ago but Victoria has been in it since she was born.

The Dingles are the main family now and they are pig farmers with a large gippo type family and there are always more brothers and cousins coming out of the woodwork so it must be a massive family. My favourite Dingles are Chastity and Zak because they both have wicked personalities. Chastity used to be a stripper but now is turning her life around and working (and living) with the vet, Paddy, who used to be married to another Dingle!

The Kings used to be the rich family in the village but they are down on their luck now. They used to be a big family with 4 brothers and their dad but 2 of the brothers and the dad were killed so there's only Jimmy and Carl left now. It's stupid though because Carl killed their dad and he got away with it but he told so many people that he'd done it that I can't see that they'd keep their mouths shut for him because he's a bit arrogant and rude to people.

There aren't that many characters in Emmerdale so the same stories revolve around the same people all the time which gets a bit stupid because if I ever had such bad luck as some of them have I'd have left the village a long time ago.

I'm enjoying the current storyline about Mark who is married to Natasha. They are the new posh knob family living in Home Farm. We've just found out that he used to be married before but staged his disappearance before he knew that his first wife was pregnant and he tried to keep this from Natasha but was forced to confess when his old wife and son moved to Emmerdale. His other son from his current marriage is just finding out his dad's secret and I'm hoping there is going to be another murder to liven up the dales when it all comes out.

I like the stories because they dont drag on too long like in Eastenders and they don't bring in too many characters because that wouldn't make it like a small village like its supposed to be. There's quite a few comedy characters in Emmerdale and even though I don't usually like that in soaps they've chosen them well and they bring a breath of fresh air to the programme.

There have been some very sad storylines as well like when Laurels baby died of cot death, but in true soap form that wasn't the last of it because she then found out that her baby was alive and had accidentally been switched at birth with her friends baby! It sounds proper far fetched but it worked brill and the actress who plays Laurel was the best actor in the show at that time.

I say give it a try because even though its not as exciting as Eastenders at least Emmerdale is still a bit realistic not like all the rubbish happening on Albert Square at the minute.
