I like hospital dramas so it is only fair that I review ER, this is the longest running American hospital show in history. The show ran for 15 seasons and over the years received 123 Emmy nominations, the most of any TV show. There is a very simple reason why this show was nominated so often and that is because it is good! ER showed you what an emergency room (or A&E for us English people) can be like. It also showed you what was going on in the characters lives, though less so than programmes like Grey's Anatomy. ER has lasted for 15 years before finally closing the doors on County General Hospital for the last time this year. The series starts in season one at a very slow pace. It could spend the whole episode focusing on the attack on a young person and the treatment and legal sides that follow this up, giving a fascinating view into the life of a Doctor in an Emergency Room. As time went on and writers, actors and directors became more confident in what they were writing the stories became more adventerous and stories such as the one above would be handled as a subplot to an episode rather than the only plot. This wasn't a bad thing as it allowed us to see the ...  Read the complete review

ER has been one of the best medical dramas around for a long time, well 15 years to be precise. I started watching it very early on when the likes of George Clooney played Doug Ross and Julianna Margulies played Carol Hathaway. Even then it was a cut above the best the UK had to offer in the guise of Casualty, and it kept that momentum going throughout the years. Not that it's been absolutely perfect since the beginnings, as with all long running series it's had its share of bad episodes and poor characters, but in my opinion these would only account for possibly 10 % of the show. Some of my favourite characters from the various seasons have ...  Read the complete review

ER, what can I say...well, Thursday nights have become nights of mourning for me, as with every new episode of ER, we are one closer to it being over for good. Over the last several months, I've been collecting ER on DVD, I'm now on series 12. I've been watching it on TV right since the very first episode in 1994, and have never missed one. Watching it all again has been great, especially seeing old faces again. In the early days we had Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards), Doug Ross (George Clooney), Carol Hathaway (Julianna Margulies), Peter Benton (Eriq La Salle) and John Carter (Noah Wyle), among a stellar cast of supporting actors - but these were the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review ER: The glory years of this show have gone (381 words)

WHAT IS IT ABOUT: This long running US TV show follows the adventures of the ER (that's A&E here in the UK) in a US hospital. The show is award winning, and can be found in the UK on Channel 4. Each episode developed the back stories of the main characters, whilst including a range of medical scenarios to be dealt with. IS IT ANY GOOD: Five years ago I was so into this show that I imported the DVDs from Japan (the only place they were available) at £100 a series. The show is now in its thirteenth series, and has lost a lot of its original character, so this review needs to be divided into two parts: 1) Early years - seasons one to ...  Read the complete review
