He plays his part well and if you don't genuinely hate the guy by at least the third episode there is something wrong with you. I am fully aware that Gervais's style of awkward situation humour is not for everybody. As there is no laugh track I can perfectly understand how some people might just find it cringey and ... more

Premium Review Extras: Top Notch Comedy (410 words)

Extras has Ricky Gervais starring as Andy Millman a miserable, struggling extra with big ambitions and underwhelmed with his lot in life. As a Gervais virgin, I can safely say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Gervais created the standard comedy duo set up by making Millman's best friend a complete contrast. Ditsy, quirky fellow extra Maggie Jacobs whose loose lips consecutively manage to land Andy into trouble. And again as standard sitcom rules dictate, Greg, his smirking rival who just about always seems to get the better of him and has no problem rubbing it right in Andy's face. He plays his part well and if you don't genuinely hate the guy by at ...  Read the complete review

Extras is the follow up comedy vehicle to display the writing and performing talents of Ricky Gervais who had the smash hit The Office and then followed it up with this excellent series that follows the efforts of Andy Millman played by Gervais to make it is show business as an actor. Gervais character is another socially awkward individual who has a habit of allowing his mouth to get him into awkward social situations, he is also a bitter character, jealous of those who get he breaks and become stars while he is left working as an extra with his best friend Maggie (Ashley Jansen). Stephen Merchant plays his dim witted agent who must be the worst acting agent ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Extras: The difficult second album (294 words)

When Ricky Gervais finished 'The Office', he was in an interesting position; dozens of Hollywood stars and British favourites were asking him to include them in his next project. The unprecedented success of his show meant he was in a powerful position, and one he used well. Extras is a sitcom about (wait for it) film extras. Gervais plays Andy Millman, a lovable guy who is both very funny but also very vulnerable - a comic mix. Office co-creator Stephen Merchant also takes a role in the show, playing the idiotic agent and ex-Carphone Warehouse worker Darren Lamb. Andy Millman is very different to David Brent, sharing only a couple of facial ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review another talented comedy from the makers of The Office (232 words)

Another dry comedy written by and starring Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervaise (the talent behind The Office). Ricky Gervaise plays Andy an actor that only gets extra parts in films alongside famous actors, until he finally gets his own slapstick comedy show in the later part of series 2. Stephen Merchant plays his not very good agent his only other client being 'Barry' from Eastenders. Stephen Merchant is extreamly funny and the best character in the show in my opinion. There is a famous actor in every episode from Kate Winslet and Orlando Bloom to Daniel Radcliff and Robert De Niro. One of the most publicized and controversial episodes was when ...  Read the complete review

When your first TV outing is the award winning The Office which picked up awards both sides of the Atlantic then you are always going to have a tough task when you launch your second project. However with Extras Ricky Gervais has again come up trumps. Initially I must admit I was not impressed and it was only when I gave the show a second chance and watched the first series again that I began to become a big fan of the show. In the show Gervais plays Andy Millman who is a struggling actor who makes a living working as an extra. This means that Andy and his best friend Maggie get to brush shoulders with the stars whilst all the time in the case of ...  Read the complete review
