First ran in 1997, Extreme Ghostbusters is a spin off of the "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoon series. It only features a few of the original characters; Egon Spengler, Jenine Melnitz and "Slimer," and none of these are voiced by anyone otherwise associated with the franchise. The premise is that a team of young, student-age aspiring ghostbusters are studying under now veteran-ghostbuster Egon Spengler, who was remaining in the Ghostbusters' classic firehouse headquarters to monitor the volatile substances within the Containment Unit.
