Advantages: Great family quiz show
Disadvantages: None really
When it comes to Saturday night TV, Family Fortunes has got to be one of the classics!
For most of it's run, the programme was presented by Les Dennis, though it has also been presented by such names as Bob Monkhouse, Max Bygraves, Andy Collins and Vernon Kay. Personally, Les will always be the presenter that I will identify the programme with though.
The idea of Family Fortunes is that two families compete against each other, trying to guess the most popular answers from surveys. If the answer appears on the board, then the family win points. If the team in play get more than 3 answers wrong though, then the other family get a chance to steal the points by guessing one of the missing answers.
The show at times has had some very funny moments, with contestants giving really whacky answers to questions. Some examples are:
Someone who works early hours: "A burglar.."
A famous Dick: "Carrot.."
A yellow fruit: "Orange.."
A food than can easily be eaten without chewing: "Chips.."
At the end of the game, two members of the family had to have a go at answering five more survery questions within a number of seconds. If between them, they managed to score 200 points or more, then the family would win a cash prize. If they also managed to get all of the top answers, then they would win the star prize, usually a holiday or car.
This programme was great TV, and is still going strong with Vernon Kay now presenting, with familes of celebrities competing.
Summary: Family TV at it's best
