Family Fortunes is a game show currently hosted by Les Dennis although he is leaving now!! They are moving the show to early afternoons and Les has decided he doesn’t want to work then, perhaps it’s too early for him.

You get two teams, each team is made up of one family (six people I think!) and the team is called by the surname of the family, ‘the smith family Versus the jones family’. A member of each family goes up to answer a question, whoever gets the highest answer gets to choose whether they want to play on this question or pass it to the other family. Each member of the family has to answer the same question until the get three wrong or guess all of the answers. If they get three wrong answers the other family gets a go and if they find on of the missing answers they win that round.

The questions are based on surveys carried out before the show. 100 people are asked the question and the top answers are put up on the board hidden. When the answers are guessed correctly they show up, the idea is to uncover all of the answers. The questions are things like, name of a fruit, something you take to the peach, a famous Arthur, etc.

One the winning family is announced they have a prize winning round at the end where they are asked quick questions and get points for their answers. One family members goes first then a second, the second must give different answers. If they reach a certain number of points (200) they win either a car/holiday/money etc. This is Les’ chance to get closer to the contestants though I have noticed that he tends to ‘hug’ the women while the blokes just get a hand on their shoulder.

This is the type of gameshow that you can play along at the same time though you will find yourself yelling at the television because the teams can’t get the most obvious answer. When they are desperate (or just plain stupid) you can get some ridiculous answers which
are hilarious, listen out for these, they make the show!! I think they save certain shows for the stupid familys just for the humour concept.

Les Dennis is a great host, he is funny and interacts with all of the contestants really well. I don’t think they will find a host as good as him for this show.

There is a board game available of Family Fortunes, I might invest in it, it’s probably a good game for those necessary family gatherings, like xmas. You could invent your own questions for when you are particularly drunk and make it even more fun.

The show is great for all ages and there will be questions that children can answer as well so they can join in yelling at the television. This show is great family entertainment, one of the better quiz shows aired at the moment!
