Family Guy is an animated american sitcom created by Seth McFarlane. It airs on Fox and in syndication on other networks and premiered in 1999.

The show revolves around the Griffins, a dysfunctional family living in the town of Quahog, Rhode Island. The head of the household is Peter, a blue collar, bumbling, beer swilling kind of guy who love his family, he's married to Lois, who comes from a very wealthy family and is a housewife/piano teacher. They have three kids; Meg, who is often the butt of everyone's jokes due to her unpopularity and dowdyness, Chris, who is fat and unintelligent and definitely his father's son, and Stewie, a baby of ambiguous sexual orientation who is very intelligent, speaks with a high class accent, and comes up with a lot of schemes that usually have the goal of him conquering the world. They also have a dog, Brian, who walks on two legs and can speak english, although he is still considered a pet.

This show has had a troubled history, being canceled twice, in 2000 and 2002. Both times it was brought back based on strong DVD sales, and I'm glad they did because I love this show! I know they use a lot of 'cutaway gags' that aren't associated with the plot, but that's part of what makes this show unique, and it gives them carte blanche to make pretty much any joke they want to. And don't think they won't either, this show is like "South Park" in that they will take the mickey out of anyone and anything, indeed there have been a few moments that have been cut from certain episodes, such as the JFK pez dispenser bit and the Osama Bin Laden singing showtunes at the airport bit.

It bears more than a passing similarity to "The Simpsons", but I think it stands on it's own as a great TV show. It has biting humour that isn't afraid to make fun of taboo subjects. You can relate to them as well as they do all love each other, and they always end up making the right decision. Overall I would highly recommend this show, five stars!
