Advantages: Funny, Clever, not afraid to push boundaries
Disadvantages: How it tackles some issues
Having always considered myself a loyal Simpsons fan, I never actually started watching Family Guy until about a year ago. Since then I've always said to myself 'Look what you've been missing out on!' No doubt inspired by shows such as the Simpsons, Family Guy in my (and many other's) opinion somewhat better than the Simpsons.
Family Guy is one of those shows that isn't afraid to go the extra mile, similar to the likes of South Park. Creator Seth MacFarlane along with it's writers aren't afraid to push the boundaries in the name of entertainment. Because of this, the show has come into much controversy and scrutiny by reviewers and people that are uncomfortable with some of the content, but then again if there weren't shows like this around to do that I feel the entertainment scence would be very boring indeed. The show goes into subjects such as racism, sexism etc. but not to an extent where everyone disagrees, which I feel is acceptable to some circumstances, though I for one am strongly against racism and sexism. The comedy element to these factors certainly relax the disagreement with the subjects.
I've never known there to be a boring episode, and having watched almost every episode by now, the content of the series' are brilliant, genious and very funny.
To summarise my opinion, I am a big fan of this show, and I hope it lasts as long as the Simpsons, if not longer. I can't really say I prefer it to the Simpsons, but I'm sure given time I will prefer Family Guy.
Summary: A great show, hope it lasts for years to come
