Advantages: Very funny, 'Off the wall' humour, Great characterisation
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little too similar to the Simpsons, I'm led to believe Sky are cancelling it!
I have just read on a Family Guy (fan) website; "Bad news for British fans, not only have SkyOne treated Family Guy so badly over the last couple of months, but they now plan to axe the show and replace it with re-runs of Buffy. The last remaining episodes that they will show are the following this week:- Wednesday: There's Something About Paulie Friday: He's Too Sexy For His Fat" This is a great shame for fans of the series, and especially a blow- as Sky didn't want to show series two in the first place. The question I have however, is why is Family Guy so underated? As many other users here at Dooyoo, I love Family Guy. The humour is very different to most of the American comedies that we import, it is more subtle and 'off the wall'. It takes the idea of the Simpsons, another programmes I am a fan of, and builds on it to create something very different, yet equally sucessful. I particularly love the characterisation, Stewie- the intelligent, baby who would rather achieve world domination than play baby games Peter- the thick, lazy father- a lovable rogue The son- A fat slob, who's scared of the monkey living in his closet... The daughter- Unpopular, self-obsessed Brian- The dog, who has more class or eligance than anyone else in the family- a heavy drinker. Peter's wife (I've forgotten her name!)- The most stable member of the family who keeps it al together. This is the ultimate disfunctional family, which definately owes a lot to the Simpsons for ideas, yet it is very original, and makes a welcome repeat from endless 'Star Trek', 'Buffy' and 'Simpsons' re-runs on Sky One...
