Fast Show, The

Newest Review: ... You Sir' Whitehouse is a brilliant comedy actor. Whitehouse portrays his laconic characters to perfection and his timing and the quality of his writing make him one of the funniest men on TV. A shame his recent drama comedy was such a boring load of tosh. Charlie Higson was also excellent in the Ralph and Ted sketches which was so subtle it seemed out of place in the quickfire parts around. John Thomson too has a superb way of acting. He has an apparently effortless style as can be seen in his Jazz Club presenter (Nice) and his actor in makeup preparation (after 5 hours in makeup he dons a ridiculous wig to complete his transformation). He h... more

The Fast Show has now ended but it will live on in the memory for a long time. It will of course continue to be shown in repeats and on satellite for years to come. Many of the sketches though have already become very familiar due to the excellence of the writing, the performances of the acting principles, the characters they created and of course the catchphrases which are etched into our sub-conscious. After his success as support to Harry Enfield, and it has to be said his increasing knack of stealing the show with Enfield, Paul Whitehouse was the leading performer in The Fast Show. From the subtle underplaying of the gardener Ted to the geezer Dave who ...  Read the complete review

Ahh... the Fast Show. Creators of meaningless yet hysterically funny catchphrases, unbelieveable yet unbelievably funny characters and of course the subsitute that Monty Python fan's needed since the Monty's went off and made crap like Fierce Creatures. The Fast Show's breed of bizarre humour and sketches is obviously heavily influenced by the work of John Cleese, Michael Palin and the boys. It all started with Harry Enfield and Chums, a very successful sketch show starring (believe it or not) Harry Enfield, Paul Whitehouse and Kathy Burke. While this was enjoyable enough and getting good reviews, Paul was irritated at Harry getting most of the ...  Read the complete review

Just before it begins, you feel butterflies in your stomach, and within seconds you find yourself uncontrollably going with the flow, a huge grin on your face. You strap yourself in (kinky) and lay back to enjoy the ride. Once it's over you just can't move, sitting there, grinning euphorically, and desperate to doo it all over again. Maybe that's a touch excessive, but it's not far off. By the way, if you hadn't yet guessed, I am a fan of the show.... You may not have had the pleasure of watching the Fast Show yet, so for those of you with no idea what I am talking about, the Fast Show is a half hour programme created by Paul ...  Read the complete review

The fast show, once a superb comdey show with well thought out sketches, now a annoying way of filling half-a-hour of the BBC programme timetable! I must amit the first series was very funny and enjoyable, but the time paul whithouse and his "gang" did there last series,i,frankly, lost intrest with the way viewers would see the same sketches time & time again with slight variations.I understand that people have there favorates but this show realise heavily on this,i personaly expect more new comedy skecthes in a show.I feel this let "the fast show" down.Recycling the same sketches and comming up with poor, new ones.So in concluesion you either ...  Read the complete review

Sadly it is no more. But it probably was time to call it a day, the final episides didn't quite have the same spark that has managed to tickle my funny bone for the last few years. It stars Paul Whitehouse, Chris Day, Charlie Higson and, up untill the last series or two, Caroline Ahern. Each of them have their own memorable characters, with their own memorable catch phrases and eccentricities. From the Suits You guys to Ted and Ralph, they've produced amazing characters, all endearing and special in their own way. Knowing what's going to happen only makes it funnier. Paul was originally a writer and performer with Harry Enfield. ...  Read the complete review
