Advantages: It employs poor actors

Disadvantages: It's not funny

Well the BBC has done it again, they either make really good comedy programmes or really abysmal programmes, this is a case of the later. It was screened on Friday’s on BBC 2 at 9:30 p.m. but thank god it’s over.

I’m not sure what the Beeb were trying to achieve. It’s a bout a rather large Irish family (Catholic), very stereotypical at that. The basic programme is based around the many children at what goes on in their lives, not a terrible idea I suppose but it simply isn’t funny most of the time.

I say most of the time because I did watch one episode that was remotely funny, where one of the family was dealing in children’s story books, however it was dealt with like drug dealing quite comical. But nothing else was funny, you have one of the daughters changing jobs each week, declaring in a screaming and annoying voice ‘I’m a Lolly Pop Lady ma…’ etc. It’s not just that, the parents are horrendous and loud and some of the plots appalling. I tuned in once to two Irishmen dressing up as a horse so as to avoid the attentions of the police.

Apart from the lack of humour, it’s seriously under funded, the sets are really not very good and it’s hugely stereotypical of rural Irish life. I can’t think of a single saving grace, even the acting is pretty hollow. Oh lawdy what have the BBC done, there is one word that fully depicts the Fitz – DIRE.
