Advantages: Great show

Disadvantages: None really

The Flintstones is a wonderful kids' TV show that is a timeless classic from the 1960s. The concept is very original and clever, and the delivery onto our screens, with the effect of a live studio audience, makes it feel homely and more 'live' than other shows.

The Flintstones takes a normal average working family and their friends and neighbours, and creates a Stone Age environment for them to live, thus giving us a snippet into what family life might have been like back in the time of the dinosaurs, but with a few clever mod-cons altered to suit the time.

Fred Flintstone is the lead character, living with his wife Wilma, and later their daughter Pebbles and their pet dinosaur, the hyperactive Dino. Fred's best friend and bowling partner is Barney Rubble, who lives next door with his wife Wilma. The group of them have a wonderful time each episode, with typical tales relating to our every day life making it like a sitcom cartoon more than anything else.

The clever part of the show is the use of the animals and Stone Age surroundings to substitute everyday household items, using mammoths' trunks for showers and with a remote control being a bird being ejected out of a box and flying to whichever contraption it may be required to do something do. But the best part is the transport. The cars are made out of stone wheels attacked to a wooden frame, but, being in the Stone Age, there is of course no engine, so the drivers use their feet on the ground to pedal, causing hilarity and defying human limits every time!

I loved the Flintstones as a child. The cartoons are shown every now and then on various channels as repeats, and with two films being made in the past decade or so and the spin off futuristic version, The Jetsons coming out of it, The FGlintstones will have its mark for a long time yet. I recommend this for any kids - it's just fun! Yabadabadooooo!

Summary: Prehistoric family life in a cartoon?
