Advantages: informative, interesting, unpredictable auctions!
Disadvantages: on at 3:45pm so not everyone will watch
Well, here i am about to write a review on a show which focuses on selling peoples antiques/unwanted items.
I have a lot of time off and started watching Flog It because its on at 3:45pm (or there abouts) on weekday afternoons when to be truthful, theres not much else on! After watching one episode i found i was hooked!
The general idea is that members of the public take a long their items to a 'valuation' day and have their items valued by experts. Its often interesting to hear about an items history but you can tell by the faces of the owners all they want to know about is the value!
The items that often fetch the most are the Clarice Cliff and you can see the excitement on the experts face when someone brings one of these items to their table!
Once the item has been valued it comes to the auction. This is interesting because you see just how close these experts are to the actual valuation. However, as with anything an item is worth as much as someone is prepared to pay. Often they aren't far wrong however there are occasions when they have severely under or over valued.
The auction is what this programme is all about and it just makes the programme for me. The look on someones face when they had their item priced at around £150 and it fetches £500 is priceless and the surprise of the valuer too is fantastic.
The presenter also takes time out from the valuation day and visits areas of importance to the town they are in. He discusses the heritage and importance of this area to the town and sometimes although this can be a little boring, there are times when it is interesting.
All in all, i enjoy this programme. Its informative and can be unpredicatable which is what i like. I dont mind being called 'sad' because we all have different tastes. Im only 24!
Summary: not just for the old! If youre young, its not as boring as you might think!
